Noosa Surf Report for January 5th, 2026

Today’s Overview

We have a small, waist-high wind swell coming from the southeast. Conditions are best early with light offshore winds before winds build later in the day.

Swell & Conditions

Today’s swell is a small southeast wind swell producing waist-high waves. Winds are forecast to be light early with light offshores. Through the afternoon, winds will build out of the east and swing northeast, becoming a reasonably strong sea breeze.

Wave quality will be peaky rather than lined up.

Best Locations

The best conditions are going to be early, before the wind comes up. Anywhere between Sunshine Beach and Coolum will be the best option in the morning. Along this stretch, expect small, peaky waves, and it will be about finding the right bank.

This afternoon, with the northeast wind strengthening and the tide dropping, the only option will be north of the Sunshine Beach Surf Club through to the northern end of Sunshine.

Tides

  • High tide: Around 9:00am
  • Low tide: Around 4:00pm

Board Recommendations

With the small swell, you’ll want a board with plenty of volume to help catch waves.

The best boards for today are:

  • Laguna Bay Overdrive
  • Summer Vibes Softboards
  • Any high-volume shortboards available at Foam and Resin

Final Word

Best surf is early. Find a bank, ride something with volume, and expect conditions to deteriorate once the northeast sea breeze comes up.
