Noosa Surf Report for January 7th, 2026

Today’s Noosa surf report for January 7th reflects pretty average surfing conditions across the Noosa region, driven by a short-period southeast wind swell and persistent onshore winds.

The forecast is for a very small southeast wind swell, sitting at around one metre with a short 5-second period. Southeast winds are expected to vary between 10–15 knots, keeping conditions onshore for most exposed beaches. Overall, it’s not shaping up as a particularly favourable day for quality waves, but there are still a few small options if you’re keen to get in the water.

Tides will play a role today, with a high tide around 10:45am and another high tide a little after 5:00pm. Around the higher tide, there may be the odd small wave in the shoreys, particularly between Sunshine Beach and Coolum, although conditions will remain onshore and fairly messy.

For beginners and first-timers, there might be a tiny wave for learners between the Noosa rockwalls, offering the most sheltered option of the day. This is a suitable spot for anyone hiring a surfboard and looking for a low-pressure introduction to the ocean.

Given the smaller, softer conditions, the best surfboard choices today are:

  • NSP Funboards
  • Summer Vibes Foamies

These boards are ideal for surfboard rental on days like today, providing extra volume, stability, and wave-catching ability in weak surf.

Longer Range Outlook

Looking ahead, there is something much better on the horizon. From Friday and into the weekend, a long easterly fetch extending deep into the Pacific is expected to generate new swell. By Friday, we should start to see this swell filling into the Noosa points.

As Friday progresses and into the weekend, conditions could deliver super fun small waves, potentially chest-high on the points, stretching from the National Park through to Tea Tree Bay. This is definitely something to look forward to, especially for anyone planning a weekend surf or organising a surfboard hire from Foam and Resin.
